Holding On

summer 2026

A sewing project exploring the loss of comfort and protection.

Before I moved away, I traced my partner's hand and later sewed it at home. While working on it, I had time to reflect and realised that I always fall asleep faster when I am holding on to something. My mother also told me that as a newborn in the hospital, I would only fall asleep while holding someone's finger. I think this habit has become a symbol of safety for me, a reminder that someone is beside me. The sewn hand is an attempt to hold on to that feeling while we are apart.
